Pauline Ferrand-Prévot announces she will retire from mountain bike to focus on road
Wow. After winning gold earlier in thewomen's mountain bike race, Olympic and world championPauline Ferrand-Prévot tells the post-race press conference she will leave the discipline at the end of the year to focus on the road.
She will take a few weeks to decide on which road trade team she will join to focus on the women's Tour de France, she said.
The Frenchwoman added of her preparations for these Olympic Games:
“I was like a robot for a couple of months now, in my own bubble, didn’t talk to anyone, I just practiced, ate and slept. Now, the emotion is [here], all the emotion that I kept for months, I think I’m gonna cry for a while.
“I don’t have any words, I was in my bubble and now everyone is cheering my name, I win, I see my family crying, it's all unbelievable emotions.
“I wanted to be exactly what I was today, it can sound pretentious but I really wanted to do that race, to act like a robot. I didn’t hear anything, not the time, not the public, I was so focus on myself. I had to do it.”

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (FRA) wins women's cross-country gold!
Finally, at her fourth Olympic Games, Ferrand-Prévot (FRA) has the gold!
The Frenchwoman has won five cross-country gold medals at the world championships (2015, 2019-20, and 2022-23), and was world champion in the road race in 2014, but had yet to earn an Olympic medal...until today!
Her compatriot Loana Lecomte, who won silver in this event at the 2023 world championships, suffered a nasty fall midway through the race that put her out of contention. Puck Pieterse (NED), another medal favourite, had a tyre puncture that also dropped her down to fourth.
2022 world bronze medallist Haley Batten (USA) took advantage of the chaos ahead to burst through and earn silver, while Rio 2016 champion Jenny Rissveds (SWE)wins bronze.

Biles lands signature vault
Simone Biles - pretty good at gymnastics.
That's an obvious understatement as Biles completes her two attempts on vault, including her Biles II vault - the Yurchenko double pike.
Despite a big step backwards after landing, Biles receives another big score: 15.800. And with that, she also becomes the first woman to land the vault in Olympic competition! Incredible.
